He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, repelling their invasion and pursuing them into their own territory. As a result, the Ammonites were forced to pay an annual tribute for two years. However, when Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah, king of Israel, formed an alliance against Judah, they saw an opportunity to revolt, and Jotham was unable to retake control due to his preoccupation with other matters (see 2 Kings 15:37).
