Statement of Faith
The Modern Pastor’s Version (MPV) is shaped by a historic, orthodox understanding of the Christian faith. This Statement of Faith summarizes the core beliefs that guide the translation and its intended use in the life of the Church.
The MPV is not tied to a single denomination, but it is firmly rooted in the historic Christian faith expressed in the great confessions and creeds of the Church. The following points are not exhaustive, but they summarize the doctrinal boundaries within which the MPV is translated and intended to be used.
1. Scripture
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, authoritative Word of God. It is without error in all that it affirms in the original writings and is the final rule of faith and practice for all believers.
The purpose of the MPV is to present this same God-breathed Scripture in clear, modern English, without adding to or taking away from the message God has given.
2. God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and co-eternal, sharing the same divine nature, worthy of the same worship, honor, and obedience.
God is holy, righteous, loving, and sovereign over all things. He created all that exists, sustains all things by His power, and works all things according to the counsel of His will.
3. Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, who took on flesh through the miracle of the virgin birth. He lived a sinless life, taught with authority, and perfectly revealed the Father.
Jesus died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin, bearing the punishment we deserved. He rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now reigns at the right hand of the Father as Lord and King.
He will one day return in glory to judge the living and the dead and to restore all things according to God’s plan.
4. The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God, sent by the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He draws people to Christ, brings new birth, and dwells within every believer.
The Spirit empowers God’s people for holy living, faithful witness, and fruitful service. He illumines the Scriptures, so that we may understand and obey God’s Word.
5. Humanity and Sin
We believe that human beings were created by God in His image, designed for fellowship with Him and for stewardship of His creation. Through sin, humanity rebelled against God, and as a result all people are separated from God, guilty, and unable to save themselves.
Sin affects every part of our being—mind, will, emotions, and actions. Apart from God’s grace, we cannot return to Him or live in a way that pleases Him.
6. Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. No amount of good works, religious effort, or moral improvement can earn God’s favor or remove our guilt.
Those who repent of their sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are forgiven, declared righteous in God’s sight, adopted into His family, and given the gift of eternal life.
This salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace from beginning to end, and it is meant to result in a life of growing holiness, love, and obedience.
7. The Church
We believe that the Church is the worldwide body of all who have been redeemed by Christ and united to Him by faith. Local congregations are visible expressions of this one Church, gathered to worship, hear the Word, share the ordinances, and live out the mission of God together.
The MPV is created to serve the Church, not to stand above it. It is one tool among many that God may use to build up His people through the faithful proclamation of His Word.
8. Christian Life
We believe that followers of Jesus are called to a life of worship, holiness, love, and mission. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, believers are to grow in Christlike character, love one another, serve the needy, and bear witness to the gospel in word and deed.
Scripture shapes every part of the Christian life. The MPV seeks to make that Scripture clear and accessible, so that believers can hear and obey God’s voice more readily.
9. Future Hope
We believe in the bodily return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the restoration of all things. God will bring His people into a renewed creation where righteousness dwells, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
This hope shapes the tone and direction of the MPV: the Bible is not merely a religious text, but the living Word of the God who saves, judges, and restores.
10. How this shapes the MPV
This Statement of Faith is not meant to replace historic confessions or the doctrinal statements of local churches. Rather, it defines the theological boundaries within which the Modern Pastor’s Version is created and evaluated.
Passages are translated with an awareness of how the Church has historically understood them, and with a desire not to introduce novel or misleading wording that would distort Christian doctrine.
Churches from different traditions may use the MPV alongside their own confessions and preferred translations, confident that the MPV is aiming to honor the same gospel, the same Lord, and the same Scriptures that believers have treasured through the centuries.
